Time is going by much faster than it was in the first trimester.  We had another u/s yesterday and confirmed again that we are having a little boy.  He is a big boy, already 6 oz, when the average size is 5. I noticed on my little diagnostic exit sheet, they checked AMA (advanced maternal age), High Risk Pregnancy and Large for Gestational Age.  My doctor didn't say anything about it being bad that he was measuring ahead, but on paper it looks bad.  Oh well.  He is definitely filling up my uterus and his legs are folded up now, whereas at 12 weeks he was all stretched out.

Last night I got a massive migraine and my doctor had written me a script for lortab, but I hadn't filled it.  I don't really want to take pain pills, but if I had those last night I think I would have succombed, because I was so desperate.  I kept having dreams that I was having a horrible headache and then I would wake up and realize my head was still pounding.  Finally the pain dissapated around 3 am after some tylenol.  I made an appt with a massage therapist to see if that will help.  Unfortunately, the only acupuncturist in town went back to his medical practice.  There are drawbacks to living in a small town.

Also we got the final test results back on the integrative 1st trimester screening and we are negative for downs, trisomy 18 and neural tube defects.  Phew!

Well that's the update for this week - hope everyone is doing well and we are on the downward slide to the weekend.

  1. I see AMA all over my chart too, and it doesn't mean against medical advice! I wouldn't worry if the baby looks a little bigger, there is an error of margin when measuring by ultrasound. I will admit, on Christmas day, I had a borderline migraine that Tylenol wasn't touching and I took half a pain pill. I felt guilty, but my head was pounding! If you have another doozy, I would take the lortab. I honestly don't think it's that bad, as long as you don't take a lot of it. I hope the headaches pass soon! Happy 16 weeks!

  2. Migraines are the worst. I hope you can get them under control. What age is considered advanced maternal?

  7. Sorry for the migraines, I can't imagine. Hope it gets better the farther along you get. Glad things are moving along nicely. I so can't wait to be out of the first trimester.

  8. Hope your headaches go away soon - that must be a drag. Congrats on a healthy baby boy and getting through the first trimester testing. Did you do an amnio or a CVS? Or is that some other kind of test?

  9. Hope your headaches get better! I have had a headache everyday this week when I get home from work - not fun. My husband is a neonatal dr and he says that when women dr's are pregnant and have a bad headache, they take lortab or percocet. If it is ok for them then it must be ok for us :) Congrats on having a boy!!

  10. THanks for all the encouraging words! I think the headaches must have something to do with dilating and expanding blood vessels. Maybe my body just has to get used to this new norm. Thanks for the comments about the lortab being ok, makes me feel better than women docs are taking it to feel better.

  11. How long did it take to get your 1st trimester screen results back? I just scheduled mine. Wow on your baby's size. My colleague delivered a big baby, who then slept through the night in like the first month or something crazy like that. : )

  13. My brother in law is a chiropractor in Oxford and has just started up his buisiness there so is looking for some new clients. His name is Hal Posey. I don't know where he is located, but I will find out if you're interested. He is really good!
